| Contents | The course is aimed at providing the student with the fundamental notions related to the structure of body tissues, always in relation to their function. |
| Course objectives | The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge on the characteristics of the cells that make up tissues, on the relationship between their structure and the function they perform and on the functional integration of tissues thanks also to the extracellular matrix. The course is also aimed at highlighting the clinical and nursing significance of the phenomena treated. At the end of the course the student will be able to: |
| Prerequisites | Students must know the basic notions of Physics, Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Access to the exam is subject to passing the preparatory exams, as resolved by the Course Council. Students must know the basics of cytology in broad terms: the structure, function and importance of the plasma membrane, the nucleus, and the main cellular organelles, such as mitochondria, smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus and lysosoms. |
| Teaching methods | The course is composed of lectures with the possibility of direct interaction with the teacher, who can be asked questions to resolve doubts during the presentation of the contents and at the end of the lesson. During the lectures, the teacher stimulates the participation of the students in the recognition of the preparations through digital images of histological sections. |
| Assessment methods | During the lessons, the professor asks series of questions to the students to verify their ongoing learning. The final exam will be contextual to the evaluation of the courses of the C.I. and will consist of an oral interview aimed at ascertaining the achievement of the educational objectives. |
| Other information | The slides used during the lessons are available to students and will be uploaded on the teacher's website in teaching material. These are to be considered support to the study of textbooks. If requested, tutoring activities are provided during and after the delivery of the course. |
| Detailed syllabus | Methods of sampling and preparation of biopsy samples. Histogenesis: stemness, differentiation and homeostasis. The fundamental tissue and their variants. |
