Prerequisiti

Esami propedeutici stabiliti dal corso di laurea

Metodi didattici

Course objectives

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student must acquire the main notions regarding the general and physical semiotics of the respiratory system (collection of the anamnesis and performance of the chest physical examination), respiratory function tests with definition of obstructive and restrictive ventilatory deficits and respiratory failure (simple spirometry, body plethysmography, bronchoreversibility tests, measurement of lung diffusion capacity, blood gas analysis), diagnostic imaging tests (chest x-ray, Chest CT, lung scan and chest ultrasound) and l’ bronchial endoscopy. The student must acquire the main notions regarding the definition, epidemiology, classification, etiology, pathogenesis, pathophysiology, diagnosis, clinical and therapy of the following pathologies: bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis, community-acquired pneumonia (typical and atypical) and nosocomial, tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis infection, diffuse infiltrative lung pneumopathies (particular reference to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis), lung neoplasms, of the pleura (particular reference to lung cancer and pleural mesothelioma), pulmonary embolism, respiratory failure, sleep apnea syndrome (particular reference to obstructive sleep apneas), pneumothorax, pleural effusions, mediastinal pathologies, diaphragmatic pathologies.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course, the student must be able to integrate anamnestic data with clinical signs to formulate a diagnostic suspicion; interpret laboratory and imaging test results within the context of the clinical picture; and apply evidence-based guidelines for planning appropriate treatment pathways.
MAKING JUDGMENTS
At the end of the course, the student must be able to critically evaluate the relevance and accuracy of the clinical data collected; analyze the ethical and legal implications associated with clinical decisions and informed consent; and critically interpret the scientific literature to update medical practice.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
At the end of the course, the student must be able to communicate complex clinical information to the patient in a clear, empathetic, and understandable manner; prepare concise and rigorous medical records, reports, and medical reports; and present clinical cases and scientific findings to specialist and non-specialist interlocutors.
LEARNING SKILLS
At the end of the course, the student must be able to use bibliographic databases to solve emerging clinical questions and develop an independent study method for ongoing professional development

Prerequisites

Preliminary exams established by the degree course

Teaching methods

Lectures, flipped classroom, clinical teaching, problem-based learning. During clinical teaching, students will be presented with clinical cases that will be conducted interactively and under the supervision and guidance of the instructor. On these occasions, the various phases of management in clinical practice, from diagnosis to therapy, will be discussed, with further focus and insights into the epidemiological and pathophysiological aspects that emerge. Attendance at lessons and practical exercises is mandatory and will be recorded via the app. Student must have at least 75% attendance to access the profit exam

Assessment methods

The assessment of students' skills is based on an oral examination on the topics of the entire course program. The exam will focus on verifying knowledge about respiratory diseases. In particular, the ability to apply knowledge in relation to the development of the diagnostic-therapeutic path starting from pathophysiological knowledge will be evaluated. The final grade, expressed in 30/30 (18/30 represents the minimum and 30/30 the maximum), is the average of the grades obtained in the exams of the Integrated Course modules
