| Course objectives | The clinical microbiology course aims to provide fundamental knowledge of microbiology, focusing both on the general aspects of the discipline and those related to pathogenic microorganisms. The general characteristics, pathogenesis, and associated diseases of these microorganisms will be described. At the end of the course, the student will have acquired basic knowledge of the main bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi, their pathogenicity, and how prevents infections. The student will be able to understand the complex interaction between microorganisms and the environment, as well as how pathogenic microorganisms can overcome the human defense mechanisms, causing disease. |
| Prerequisites | Knowledge provided by the courses of General Biology, Biochemistry, and Immunology. |
| Teaching methods | The course requires mandatory attendance and is structured in 16 hours of lectures. |
| Evaluation methods | The exam consists of passing an oral test with a minimum score of 18/30. The interview aims to assess the student's knowledge of the main topics in the syllabus. During the oral exam, the student's ability to organize the presentation, and the ability to make connections between different topics will be evaluated. |
