    The course aims to provide the basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the female genital apparatus and basics of pathology, in order to allow the general practitioner a direct intervention for prevention and/or treatment of the most common pathologies. The student will also develop the ability to refer to gynecologist for diagnosis and therapy of the most complex pathologies. To achieve these goals, the course includes a section of anatomy and physiology of the female genital apparatus, of pathophysiology of pregnancy and gynecology with specific section for diagnostics, treatment and prevention.

    Course objectives

    The main purpose of the integrated course in Gynecology and Obstetrics is to make students able to frame the reproductive health of women and to propose obstetric and gynecological problems in relation to their general conditions and general medicine. The course will give the basics (in terms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment) in the field of pathophysiology, clinical and therapy of the female genital diseases and reproductive function in different stages of woman’s life (adolescence, childbearing age, pregnancy, post-menopause). The general practitioner will be able to identify the conditions that need the support of the specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, to identify the fundamental steps of the diagnostic and therapeutic pathways related to infertile couple and the family planning, to contribute to the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and tumors of the female genital system, to evaluate pregnancy diseases

    Evaluation methods

    The oral exam aims to ascertain the knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology of the female genital apparatus, of the treatment and prevention of obstetric and gynecological pathologies. The student must demonstrate adequate knowledge of mechanisms, clinical evolution and assistance of the spontaneous birth, management of physiological and pathological pregnancy, oncological screening methods in gynecology, instrumental diagnostic instruments in obstetrics and gynecology and their indications, causes and management of couple infertility. He must be able to analyze and link the different topics, favoring the aspect of clinical reasoning; he will be asked to solve simple clinical problems based on the description of the signs and symptoms of a disease and to describe the main therapeutic indications
